Thanksgiving travel to be very similar to 2011

GasBuddy Blog -- The number of Americans hitting the road will barely change, according to an unscientific survey of GasBuddy users. In a poll run in the days ahead of Thanksgiving, 8% of respondents said they would be traveling "a little" or "a lot" more for holiday gatherings than they did last year. That number is slightly lower than last year, when 9% of respondents said they would drive a little or a lot more than 2010.

Looking at the poll a different way, 17% of respondents said they would not be driving at all for holiday gatherings this year, up from 15% the previous year. Perhaps the largest shift in numbers this year was a 4% drop in the number of respondents indicating they would be driving less than last year. 18% of people surveyed this...

Per the CHP: Speeds on state highways were 15-20 MPH SLOWER and there were about 10% LESS private cars on the road. Result? Fewere DUI arrests and deaths this Thanksgiving than last.

I expected to go about sixty miles to a Thanksgiving dinner on the far side of Houston. I actually went about ten miles to a Luby's Cafeteria in SE Houston. My BFF procrastinated and primped until Thanksgiving dinner was over. The only part of traditional Thanksgiving fare we had was I decided to get a slice of pumpkin pie. At least I drove ten miles further than I did in 2011. My Ford Escape Hybrid was totaled and I was in a nursing home recuperating from a C. difficile infection.
