bart, funny how it was so touted to bring jobs and money to the US if it were built right then and there. And everyone clamored for it. But, it was always a bit of a red flag to me that TransCanada was pushing so hard - slowly it's emerging why... so we wouldn't have known all the details until it was too late.

You'll have to drive to South America to buy gasoline from the Canadian Tar Sands. The Keystone pipeline is planned to carry the oil directly from Canada to Texas refineries located in a special "tax free" zone. Once refined into diesel and gasoline it will be exported to South America, avoiding all taxation. America gets the crude oil pipeline spills and refinery pollution, but not one drop of the fuel. There is an excess of existing pipeline capacity to bring that Canadian crude into the U.S., but they all run to Midwest refineries supplying the U.S. market -- and the production would be taxed. The Keystone pipeline aims to avoid all taxation, not reduce our dependency on Arab oil.

We could use our own pipeline to help us both supply and employment wise - we don't need to give more of our money to the middle east

Canada can build their own pipeline, build their own refineries, produce their own fuel so their citizens could have cheaper fuel prices. But, the US and Canada want to sell the oil and fuel to the highest bidder, to make the most money from the world oil and fuel market. It would be in the best interest of both governments to lower the price of fuel and natural gas for the benefit of both countries population. Instead, they export it to the world for sale, Go figure! The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

I do not understand why Canada does not keep more of their oil at home and lower their own prices.

Let Eastern Canada have the oil. The price is too high for the USA at this time.

So sad we don't have some "Leaders in DC " that could "SEE" that it would be better to get more of our crude from Canada than from the OPEC nations.

maybe the usa should start taking care of its own with its own oil and stop subsidizing the oil companies who are taking every last cent the working people have. we could tap into what we have and let the middle east sit on what they have until they realize if they want the profits, they have to be reasonable
